What Chypre Rose Concerto smells like
Chypre is the classical fragrance family that pairs citrus, oakmoss, and labdanum into a single sophisticated chord — built originally by François Coty in 1917. Chypre Rose Concerto is our take: the chypre structure with rose at the heart. For shavers who want the most refined, vintage-perfumery register in our line.
An accord composed of citrus top notes with lime, bergamot, rose, lavender, rosemary, geranium, lilac, middle centered on labdanum on top of patchouli, oakmoss and cedarwood base. Opens with a rose scent and then mellows into a amber and woody scent. Labdanum resin is blended with myrrh and benzoin for the amber character.
Tallow or Vegan — which to pick
Chypre Rose Concerto is offered in two builds. They share the same fragrance compound (so the scent journey is identical) but the fat structure underneath is different.
Tallow ($25.99) is the original Tallow formulation. The conditioning is denser; the lather has more body. If you’ve shaved with WhollyKaw Tallow soaps before, this is the same direction.
Vegan ($21.99) swaps tallow for plant-derived fats (kokum, shea, cocoa, mango). Same fragrance compound, lighter lather body, brighter and cleaner under the razor.
Who Chypre Rose Concerto is not for
Honest limitations:
- Fragrance-sensitive skin. Chypre Rose Concerto has a real fragrance load. If our unscented Bare Naked Shaving Soap (Tallow build) or Sans Parfum Vegan Shaving Soap (Vegan build) is what your skin tolerates, this isn’t the soap to switch to.
- Strict dairy allergies. Tallow builds contain saponified dairy proteins. Most contact-dermatitis reactions to dairy are with raw milk, not saponified milk soap, but if you have severe sensitivities, test a sample before committing to a puck.
- Looking for a designer-fragrance clone. Chypre Rose Concerto is its own composition, not an interpretation of a popular fragrance.
- Pucks-as-decor shavers. The puck is meant to be used. The fragrance is most expressive in the lather; sniffing the puck doesn’t do it justice.

Lives Up To The Hype
This is my first foray into Wholly Kaw soap. As advertised, it’s an amazing base. Awesome lather with matching slickness and post-shave feel. This Chypre Rose Concerto scent is pleasant, not overly strong, but also not my personal favorite. It’s not at all offensive, just not particularly outstanding. Again, the performance is excellent, and I’ll be using this one until it’s gone. Can’t wait to try other scents!

My favorite
This has to be my favorite scented soap and top notch performance to boot. I haven't tried other rose scented soaps before but this was is rose forward with some background note that I cant describe. In any case, while be predominately I feel it has some masculinity to it without being overdone or too complicated. As with other WK soaps, performance it excellent and are currently #1 in my book. Chypre Rose Concerto - Tallow
I got on the WK Donkey Milk shaving soap preparations train fast, and they have become my favorites among my current rotation. CRC-Tallow was my choice when looking for a more floral based soap to add to my collection. I was impressed with the way Sri was able to craft a beautifully balanced scent that delivers the floral rose sweetness as advertised. He builds upon it with successive complimentary notes of green woody citrus balanced by the warm resinous amber constituents leaving a bright, masculine scent that has drawn compliments even when I don't add any post-shave applications or cologne. Sri's donkey milk preparations are a joy to shave with. The lather jumps on the brush and translates to a very slick, protective basis for a close comfortable shaving experience.

Beautifully crafting Rose scent
This is my second WK soap in the donkey milk formulation. As expected, performance was fantastic - very easy to lather and produced a nice thick, protective lather. The post shave feel was excellent as well. As far as scent goes, the rose was perfectly balanced without being too feminine and the soap paired perfectly with the Chypre Rose splash. Yet again, Sri knocked this one out of the park.

Complex Rose
Outstanding. I am not a huge fan of floral-scented soaps but come Spring I always try a few. This take on the rose scent is top notch. Yes, the soap has a rose scent to it, but there are other scents in the mix that add a unique twist to this "manly floral" soap.

Do I need a brush, or can I lather with my hands?
Chypre Rose Concerto is a hard puck designed for brush use. A synthetic or boar brush builds the best lather. Hand-lathering works in a pinch but won't get the dense, conditioning lather the soap is designed for.
