Bare Naked Shaving Soap
Unscented, fragrance-free shaving soap on WhollyKaw's Siero base. Tallow build with whole donkey milk + water buffalo milk + whey, or Vegan build with plant-derived fats. Same $21.99. For sensitive skin, fragrance allergies, or shavers who want the shave to layer cleanly under cologne.
Bare Naked is the answer when fragrance is the problem. The same Siero base WhollyKaw uses across our heritage scent line — tallow, whole donkey milk, whole water buffalo milk, water buffalo milk whey — with the entire fragrance compound stripped out. Same conditioning, same lather mechanics, no perfume, no essential oils, no scent at all.

Why fragrance-free is the right answer for some shavers
Fragrance is the most common cause of contact dermatitis in cosmetic products. For shavers with sensitive skin, eczema, rosacea, perfume allergies, or a partner who reacts to scented products, even a well-balanced fougère or oriental composition can be too much. Bare Naked removes the variable entirely.
- Hypoallergenic by elimination. No fragrance compound, no essential oils, no botanical extracts beyond the soothing Hops. The reactive surface is as small as we can make it on a real shaving soap.
- The base is the soap. Without fragrance to mask anything, the lather mechanics and the post-shave skin feel are what you experience. Tallow and donkey milk doing what they do, undisguised.
- Pairs with anything. Layer over your favorite cologne, beard oil, or after-shave without scent collision. Bare Naked is the lather-and-skincare layer; whatever you wear on top stays clean.
- Often searched as “moisturizing shave soap.” In everyday vocabulary, that’s what people mean when they want a soap that conditions skin without perfume getting in the way. Bare Naked is the cleanest expression of that on the Siero base.
The Siero base — what it does for skin
Bare Naked’s Tallow build sits on the Siero base — tallow plus whole donkey milk, whole water buffalo milk, and water buffalo milk whey. The whey proteins create a slick glide layer between razor and skin. Whole milk fats and lactose draw water into the stratum corneum during the shave. Skin feels conditioned for 30–60 minutes after rinsing — before any balm or splash is applied. Read more about the Siero base ›

Tallow or Vegan — which to pick
Both builds are unscented. Both are $21.99. Difference is the fat structure underneath:
Tallow build ($21.99) — the Siero formulation with beef tallow + whole donkey milk + whole water buffalo milk + water buffalo milk whey. Densest, most-conditioning expression. The build to pick if you want maximum skin-feel post-shave.
Vegan build ($21.99) — plant-based fats (kokum, shea, cocoa, mango butters) with Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Polyquaternium-10 carrying post-shave hydration. Lighter lather, brighter and cleaner under the razor. Pick if you avoid animal products on principle, or if dense lather isn’t your preference.

Layer the full Bare Naked line
The Bare Naked unscented line covers every step of the shave with no fragrance:
- Bare Naked Pre Shave Oil — preps the skin and softens the beard. Unscented.
- Bare Naked After Shave Toner — alcohol-free, witch hazel and aloe. For sensitive skin.
- Bare Naked After Shave Balm — final conditioning step. Unscented and vegan.
- Bare Naked Beard Oil — for facial hair conditioning, no scent.
- Bare Naked Prebiotic Soap — body / face soap, donkey milk + tallow, also unscented.
For all-day skin support, our grass-fed tallow zinc oxide cream is also fragrance-free — an unscented daily moisturizer that won’t fight the rest of the routine.
Who Bare Naked is for
This soap exists for specific shavers:
- Fragrance-sensitive skin. Eczema, rosacea, contact dermatitis, perfume allergies — conditions where scented soap is the trigger. Bare Naked is the soap to switch to.
- Heavy cologne or beard oil wearers. If you want your fragrance choice to stay clean, the shaving soap shouldn’t add competing notes. Unscented soap leaves the canvas clean.
- Sensitive partners or shared bathrooms. If a partner reacts to scented products, Bare Naked removes the trigger from the morning shave.
- Ingredient minimalists. If you want to know exactly what’s in your soap, no fragrance compound = the shortest possible ingredient deck on a real conditioning shave soap.
Who Bare Naked is not for
- Shavers who want the shave to be a sensory ritual. Bare Naked is functional, not aromatic. If part of the appeal of wet shaving for you is the fragrance journey, our 1776, King of Oud, or other scented soaps deliver more of that.
- Strict dairy allergies (Tallow build only). The Tallow build saponifies dairy proteins. If you have severe dairy contact allergies, pick the Vegan build instead.
- Fragrance is your reason for wet shaving. Hard to argue with that — just go with one of our scented soaps.

What the research describes — tallow on skin
The strongest synthesis of tallow-on-skin research to date is a 2024 scoping review in Cureus by Russell et al. The authors collated the available literature on tallow biocompatibility with skin and the mechanistic case for its use in skincare. The full paper is freely available:
Tallow, Rendered Animal Fat, and Its Biocompatibility With Skin: A Scoping Review
There is a surge in the skincare industry marketing the use of natural ingredients as efficacious agents. Although this has been popular in the Eastern hemisphere for a while, Western countries are starting to put more emphasis on naturally derived products. This paper chose to assess the body of literature on tallow as a topical skincare ingredient, its lipid composition, and how it compares with the structure and function of human skin.

Cost per shave
A 4-oz puck of Bare Naked lasts most shavers 5–6 months with daily shaves:
- Tallow ($21.99 / ~150 shaves) ≈ $0.15 per shave
- Vegan ($21.99 / ~150 shaves) ≈ $0.15 per shave
For comparison, a single-use disposable cartridge plus a foam can typically runs $0.40–$0.60 per shave with worse skin feel.

What customers say
★★★★★
Slick
I use this on week days since I work construction and smelling overly “scenty” is usually asking for some form of harassment. Anyways, Great cushion and glide. Leaves face feeling hydrated and soft. Unscented but you can still smell the quality.
★★★★★
Nothing new here
I knew before hand what I was buying based on research. And it's true, WK is all the way in the top 3 spots. Perhaps first, but the difference at that level of performance is subjective.
★★★★☆
Good, basic shaving soap
It is vegan, lathers well, and provides a good shave without perfumes. If you want a scent, you can add a few drops of essential oil before lathering. My one wish for improvement is that they make it available in a wooden bowl and sell refills.
★★★★★
Masterpiece
Once you dial it in, it is a superb shave soap. It has the cushion, slickness, and post shave feel one needs. I am so happy to is company offers fragrance free soap. I have come to appreciate the natural smell of a soap base and soaps in general. Please do not stop making this!!!

Frequently asked questions
Is Bare Naked truly fragrance-free?
Yes. No perfume, no essential oils, no botanical fragrance. The only botanical in the formula is Hops (Humulus lupulus) extract, included for its soothing effect on inflamed skin — not for scent. The faint earthy note some shavers detect is the tallow + dairy proteins themselves; that disappears as the lather builds.
Why is it called Bare Naked?
The name reflects the formulation philosophy: strip everything optional out of a shaving soap and see what remains. What remains is the base (tallow + donkey milk + water buffalo milk + whey or vegan plant-fat alternative), supporting butters, and Hops Extract for skin soothing. No scent, no dyes, no preservatives beyond what's functionally necessary.
Is this a moisturizing shaving soap?
In the way most shavers use the word — yes. People search for "moisturizing shaving soap" looking for a soap that leaves skin feeling conditioned, hydrated, and protected. The technical term we use is "conditioning" because the soap is rinsed off, but the experience matches what people mean. Bare Naked sits on our Siero base and is built specifically for that conditioned skin feel — without fragrance to compete. For an actual leave-on moisturizer, pair with our grass-fed tallow zinc oxide cream.
Tallow or Vegan — which build to pick?
Both are unscented and the same price ($21.99). Tallow is denser, more conditioning lather (donkey milk + water buffalo milk + whey + tallow). Vegan is brighter, cleaner lather (plant-derived fats with hyaluronic acid for hydration). Pick Tallow for maximum skin-feel; Vegan if you avoid animal products or prefer a lighter lather body.
Will Bare Naked work for my eczema / rosacea / fragrance allergy?
Probably yes, but everyone's skin is different. Fragrance is the single most common cause of contact dermatitis in cosmetic products, and Bare Naked has no added fragrance. The Vegan build is also free of dairy proteins for shavers with milk-protein sensitivities. Patch test on a small area first if you're switching from a known irritant; if you have a diagnosed condition, consult your dermatologist before changing products.
Can I use Bare Naked on top of my fragrance — won't they clash?
No clash. That's actually one of the main reasons unscented soaps exist. The shaving soap is rinsed off after the shave; whatever cologne, balm, or beard oil you wear after sits on clean skin. Bare Naked deliberately leaves no scent for fragranced products to layer over.
Is the Tallow build on the same base as 1776?
Yes — Bare Naked Tallow is on our Siero base, the same one 1776 and Eroe and King of Oud sit on. Same dairy stack, same lather mechanics. The only difference is fragrance — Bare Naked has none.
Does it work in cold water?
Yes. Siero soaps lather well in cold water — 30 to 45 seconds with a wet brush gets a usable lather. Hot water builds slightly faster but isn't necessary.
